June 2020
We are back ! In
April 2020 our Society was granted a license by Rugeley Power Limited
that allowed us access to our railway which is located within the power station site.
We have had to delay returning to our railway until now because of the
risk of Corvid-19 contagion. Having been guided by
government recommendations, and with a set of strict Corvid-19 rules,
members were able to visit the site for the first time in 3 years, in
June 2020. The track itself is in a remarkably good
condition, although some timber sleepers will need to be replaced. These photographs were taken by
member George Moore on 17 June, 2020 and show the condition of our near
2000 ft track
and site when a team of volunteer members set about removing 3 years of leaf
fall and tree debris, and other remedial landscaping work. There is much to be done
but it is hoped that our site can be returned to a satisfactory
condition within a month, after which we will be able to run
locomotives. Because of demolition work on the power station site,
we regret that visitors are not permitted to visit our railway at the
present time. |
